Magic's in the Makeup

We all know that magic is in makeup.  As an artist myself, I know that it's not just good makeup that matters, but the application and artistry behind the brush that is so very important.  I've spent years curating my dream team of makeup artists for my Chicago Lakeview Studio.  I've been so fortunate to recruit a team of makeup artist that are passionate and know how to turn up the glam while keeping our clients looking like themselves.

Believe me... the process of finding the most qualified makeup artists hasn't been all roses.  Before I ever hire an artist for a client, they go through a full face trial with myself so I know they can do a banging smoky eye, skin matching, a steady hand, and a complete kit to give our client exactly what she needs. I've had a few blooper experiences during this process and once had my lash strips put on with permanent glue that resulted in me ripping out my own lashes! lol  Luckily, we're able to laugh about it now!

I shoot women of all ethnicities and each of my girls can handle any face that walks in our Chicago studio like a boss.  Getting our clients ready is one of our favorite parts of the shoot because we really get to know our clients and its a chance for her to get comfortable. Not only does Demi Girl's artist have a knack for putting our clients at ease, but they are an integral part of our clients’ experience and I'm so very grateful for each and every one of them.

I adore our artists so much, so I decided to feature them on this blog so you can find out their three favorite products and what their up to when they're not making magic happen with Demi's clients.  You will find their contact information below.  My clients hire them frequently for bridal or special occasion makeup around Chicago and surrounding suburbs so if you're looking for an on-location artist for an event, you can't go wrong with these talented artists! Meet Makeup Artist Lauren Taylor!

What is your favorite thing about working with Demi Girl’s clients and doing their makeup?

I love working with Adrienne. She’s such an advocate for supporting both the client and the makeup artist. The end goal is to make the client be the most glamorous version of themselves, not transformed into someone they don’t recognize and that is the type of makeup I believe in. It’s a truly relaxed and fun atmosphere tailored to make the client feel comfortable and at home. As a makeup artist, I feel the same way, which sets me up for a successful application.

What are your three favorite makeup products that every girl should have/use in their makeup routine?

  1. B3 PRODUCTS
I’m obsessed with B3 products to prep the face. I use their Astraea oil for all skin types and the lip balm. https://b3balm.com

  2. STILA STAY ALL DAY LIQUID LIPSTICK IN SONATA
It’s my favorite everyday color for all skin tones. A beautiful neutral. https://www.stilacosmetics.com/stay-all-dayreg-liquid-lipsticks/1603-1.html?dwvar_1603-1_color=Bellissima%20%28pale%20neutral%20pink%29&cgid=lipstick#start=3

  3. SENNA HD EYE LIFT

How did you start your makeup journey?

I’m from the South and was a pageant girl. The makeup artist my mom would hire would smear tons of makeup on me that was the wrong tones and made me look WAY too old, so my sister and I would play with makeup to do it on our own. I was also a theatre major in college and was a makeup apprentice in the costume room. I moved to Chicago to pursue acting, but when I got more jobs in makeup than acting, I realized what I should be doing!

Describe what type of Makeup/work your doing when you're not working with Demi’s clients.

I’m partners in an on-location wedding and event team, We Only Do Pretty. I also do editorial, on-camera and corporate. I’m a mom of two toddlers, wife to a gentle giant, a runner and avid lover of old movies and classic musicals!

Meet Makeup Artist Lauren Guillen!

Lauren-Guillen-Wedding-Gift-Makeup-Chicago-Artist.jpg

What is your favorite thing about working with Demi Girl’s clients and doing their makeup?

I love getting the opportunity to work with Adrienne and her boudoir clientele. We always have a fun time during glam, and get to know the clients’ story as to what inspired them to come in! I also enjoy the diversity in makeup I get to do with the boudoir sessions since every client likes a different look and style for the makeup.

What are your three favorite makeup products that every girl should have/use in their makeup routine?

Ooh, this is a tough one… haha. So many products to love, but I’d have to say these three would be top three as they’re good for the everyday girl that doesn’t have 1 hour a day for a full face application.

  1. LANCOME HYPNOSE DRAMA MASCARA
It’s a game changer and makes even the smallest lashes look full!

  2. NARS ORGASM MULTIPLE STICK
It’s a highlighter Creme stick that can be used as cheek, lips, and eyes. They have different shades but this color looks great on everyone, and is easy to apply with fingers if you’re short on time!

  3. NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER.
I realize not everyone may have acne or dark circles they’d like to conceal, so this one was tied with a milk makeup face oil stick I always use and keep on me because it’s a solid oil in a stick form. But, usually, the average woman has a couple of problem areas they’d like to brighten every day, so this concealer is the real deal. It’s got a ton of coverage so you don’t need to use a lot, but super hydrating and doesn’t crease easy. This baby stays on all day, and is also in a wand form so easy to apply with fingers if you’re on the go! ☺️

How did you start your makeup journey?

I was always into makeup growing up, I would apply a smokey eye going in to school or loved doing a good lipstick. I would always linger and stalk the MAC employees at the counters, (lol) and buy any products I could afford to (or even couldn’t afford to) haha, and was known at the local counters as a frequent client of theirs! They were always so patient and were helpful with helping me learn about products, so I’m grateful to them for giving me advice when I asked how to get into makeup upon graduating. I would always go get it done at the MAC counter for proms and homecoming, and although they did a great job- there was always something I wanted to tweak or redo myself, which is what led me into this path! I would do my own makeup and friends started asking me to do theirs, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So there is where I thought to myself, how I can do this for a living? I then took their advice and looked into a reputable makeup school in Los Angeles, went to visit and boom I was gone right after graduation! It was the best thing I could have ever done for myself, and I got to do something a lot of 18 year olds can’t say they’ve done- move across the country solo to pursue your dream. 🤗

Describe what type of makeup/work your doing when you're not working with Demi clients.

I am always all over the place when not working with Demi clients! I’m at my studios a lot taking clients, but one fun part about makeup is that your day is usually never the same. You’re always working with different clients, different jobs/job sets, so it keeps it fun and fresh. I am frequently doing bridal work or just special occasion makeup on ladies going to an event of some sort! I do commercial work very frequently, and on set for movies here and there when able- so that’s always fun as well to switch things up. I also offer airbrush tanning which I do during the week at both studios!

When I’m not working, I’m usually out eating with friends or at home telling my dog she’s beautiful. I’m kind of obsessed with her (dog moms feel me on this one) 😛 so love being home with her and just relaxing! I do love being out and social, but I’m a homebody as well. I also have a boyfriend of 9 years, who I love to spend time with as well!

How did you start your makeup journey?

I was in my cousin’s wedding and we hired a makeup artist, long story short we were all unhappy with how our makeup turned out and everyone was discussing how I should have done their makeup. I've always had a passion for doing makeup and the positive feedback I’ve received encouraged me to look into doing it professionally. Therefore I decided to look into professionally accredited schools which brought me to enrolling with London Eyes Makeup Academy. I’ve taken several courses since then, including special effects makeup, airbrush makeup, and body painting. I truly love what I do and I enjoy making people feel beautiful.

Describe what type of Makeup/work your doing when you're not working with Demi clients.

As a freelance makeup artist, I often do weddings, proms, and quinceaneras. I love to do Halloween makeup, body paint, and creative photoshoots. I’ve done photoshoots with Amour magazine and also makeup on some celebrities like Kareem Abdul-Jabber and Cat Cora. I cherish spending time with my two beautiful children. When I have time for myself I enjoy reading, running and watching documentaries. Lastly, I’m the type of girl who can never say no to a glass of wine.

Meet Makeup Artist Alyssa Lalagos!

Alyssa-Lalagos-Professoinal-Chicago-Makeup-Artist.jpg

What is your favorite thing about working with Demi Girl clients And doing their makeup?

I absolutely love being a part of the getting ready process. It’s a wonderful time to talk with the clients and make them feel comfortable and empowered. We should all be welcoming our femininity, and there’s no better way than to celebrate yourself. It is important to feel beautiful and love ourselves. I truly enjoy being able to help these women fully embrace that.

What are your three favorite makeup products that every girl should have/use in their makeup routine?

  1. IT Cosmetics Illuminating CC cream is my go-to everyday foundation. It’s amazing and great for sensitive skin. It also has SPF 50 which is a must on a daily basis.

  2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz - filling in your brows is key. They frame your face and make such a difference.

  3. Nars Power Matte lip pigments. I wear lips on a daily basis. It is a great way to transition your makeup look from day to night. The formula on these is awesome. They’re long-wearing but also not drying.

How did you start your makeup journey?

I grew up dancing, so from a very young age, I had to be stage ready. Makeup is a huge part of that. It was always a love of mine. I would always get asked to do my friends makeup growing up. Eventually, I started getting asked to do wedding makeup and makeup for other events. I started realizing that I should be doing what I love. And pursued a career doing just that.

Describe what type of Makeup/work your doing when you're not working with Demi clients.

I have my own company which consists of bridal, event, editorial, commercial, and tv makeup. I also offer makeup lessons and have a set of classes that I teach. Aside from that, I work for NBC Sports and do the makeup for all of the sportscasters. I absolutely love my job. I’m still a dancer and do it when I can! Boxing and cycling are also my go-to workouts. My family is a big part of my life. I love to travel! And I love some good wine. You only live once. Make the most of it!
